CRAFT BREWING AND THE VISION OF THE VIZIR BREWERY

It’s very easy to exaggerate in life and so it is with beer recipes. To find a wonderful balance in which aromas, bitterness, alcohol and sweet taste combine in the background… that’s the challenge.

We never specifically intended to become pioneers of craft brewing. It happened spontaneously. From the very beginning, Pivovarna Vizir has selflessly contributed to the development of the Slovenian craft beer field and placed an emphasis on educating people about beer.

With a breadth of flavours, each of which is carefully developed, we strive for diversity in our work and the diversity of the craft offer in Slovenia and beyond. With high standards of production, constant innovation, acquired knowledge and education, we make sure that the quality of our work is obvious in every sip of our beers.

IDENTIFICATION MARK OF VIZIR BREWERY

CONTINUOUS INNOVATION IN BEER DEVELOPMENT

IDENTIFICATION MARK OF VIZIR BREWERY

CONTINUOUS INNOVATION IN BEER DEVELOPMENT

Constant innovation in the development of beer is already a recognisable characteristic of Pivovarna Vizir. Vizir Brewery is known to create everything, no matter how impossible it may seem. They developed:

  • beer with spruce tops,
  • chestnut beer from chestnuts which they collected in a nearby forest, brewed and added to beer,
  • honey beer from local honey,
  • potato and bean beer, which celebrates the traditional Slovenian dish “matevž”,
  • mint beer brewed for the 10th anniversary of the I.C.E. band,
  • ginger beer; and that’s just the beginning of the list.

When developing beer – new products, we strive to make unique beers using our own recipes and bearing our signature. This means that when creating recipes, we don’t follow general recommendations or guidelines, but brew beers according to our own ideas, while giving preference to the best raw materials and using locally sourced ingredients. All our beers are completely natural and preservative-free, unfiltered and unpasteurised.

An exceptional feature of our beer story was the development of:
– plum cider; actually, the first Slovenian plum cider officially on the market.
The plums were hand-picked with a lot of effort and love, and they were donated to us by an older man who makes plum spirits every year. The gentleman’s home name is Šepič and that is what we called the cider.

IMPACT ON THE CRAFT BEER SCENE

DEVELOPMENT AND CONTRIBUTION TO THE SLOVENIAN CRAFT BEER SCENE

At the time when Maja and Denis started brewing beer and founded the company, the craft beer scene in Slovenia did not even exist. People only knew commercial beer and it was hard to convince them that craft beer was different from “regular”.

I wanted beer flavours that would shock people. Something that would grab their attention and make them ask themselves what it was that we did and then educate themselves about it.

– Denis

By offering the Slovenian craft beer scene “contract brewing”, they made a fundamental contribution to the development of brewing in Slovenia. Thus, all novice brewers were offered the option of brewing beer in their brewery, which significantly reduced costs. As a result, more and more people became acquainted with craft beer, which contributed to the emergence of more and more new breweries.

LOCAL CONNECTIONS

WE COOPERATE WITH EVERYONE WHO LOVES GOOD CRAFT BEER

Local networking has always been part of Pivovarna Vizir’s mission. It is no longer a secret that Pivovarna Vizir likes to come to the rescue. They especially like to work with local associations, companies, individuals and everyone who loves good beer and new challenges.

They also implement local networking through the support of festivals, events and concerts. One of the biggest hits and a multifaceted collaboration was developed with young people from the Bela Krajina Students’ Club. They found that the ideal beer was missing from the summer festival of good music, cuisine, sports, theatre and culture – ČrnFest. That’s how the eponymous festival beer was created, becoming the hit of the summer and remaining one of the most popular even today. A good example of successful local networking.

They also started to develop a culinary story with the young budding bistro PolaBekeraj, who transferred their knowledge about sourdough – yeast to the effects of beer. This is how grissini, bread and other delicacies prepared with Vizir beer were made.

In accordance with orders and agreements, Pivovarna Vizir prepares unique house beers for various restaurants and bars. Thus, they prepared the house beer Evasion for the Črnomelj bar Napoleon caffe, and you can also find “Gaška” draft house beer in a hut on the ski slope in Gače.

EXPERTS AND VIZIR

COOPERATION WITH PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Cooperation with professional institutions is also of key importance in top brewing. Maja and Denis share their expertise with future students of the Biotechnical Faculty, at various educational facilities and the conferences of other institutions.

COOPERATION WITH PROFESSIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Cooperation with professional institutions is also of key importance in top brewing. Maja and Denis share their expertise with future students of the Biotechnical Faculty, at various educational facilities and the conferences of other institutions.

Maja and Denis Imširović cooperated with the Institute of Hop Growing and Brewing of Slovenia in Žalec in the preparation of the programme for the national vocational qualification “brewer”, which was later officially confirmed and began to be implemented. Denis has worked as a professional external collaborator with extensive experience in brewing and as an external lecturer on internship exchanges with students from the island of Martinique. He lectured on brewing and the brewing equipment of their own brand.

Of course, these are just some of the collaborations with professional institutions, but they are seeking out even more such collaborations.

Thus, if we summarise all the above, the mission of Pivovarna Vizir is to strive for high standard, top quality flavours and help others on the Slovenian craft scene.
