A Region That Quickly Feels Like Home
Somewhere in the very south of Slovenia lies a beautiful little region where warm, welcoming and down-to-earth people live. This is Bela krajina – a place where special connections are formed from the very first encounter, and where people love to return.
If you’re looking for an idea for a trip, Bela krajina offers something more. Here, nature blends with a sense of home, scenic views with stories, and people with a kind of openness that is hard to find elsewhere. And when you add a unique craft beer experience to the mix, you get a trip you won’t forget.
Vizir Brewery – Where Beer Is More Than Just Beer
Bela krajina is not only known for its wine. Right in its heart, we also brew beer. Made with local water, in an area where hops once thrived – something our mothers and grandmothers still remember today.
It’s no coincidence that Vizir Brewery stands here, in Črnomelj (Lokve). A pioneer of Slovenian craft brewing, a family-run brewery built on a story – and on the passion of Maja and Denis. For us, brewing is not just work. It’s a way of life and our mission.
We bring this mission to life by opening our doors to visitors. We love showing how beer is made, presenting our brewing kettles and tanks, and sharing the story of beer as one of the oldest beverages in the world. What fascinates people most is its diversity – from just a few ingredients come endless variations of flavours, colours and aromas. And almost always, the same thing happens: everyone finds something they love.
At our brewery, friends meet over a glass of beer, taking time for themselves. Groups explore Bela krajina step by step. We often host bachelor parties as a fun stop along the way, or birthday celebrations where we combine education with entertainment. Companies also join us for team-building experiences, where good beer helps create genuine connections.
It’s especially interesting to observe international visitors. They are always impressed by Bela krajina – by the people, the hospitality and the authenticity. Guests from the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic and increasingly the USA all leave with the same feeling: they’ve experienced something real.
Where to Go in Bela krajina
After visiting Vizir Brewery, guests often continue exploring the region. One of my personal favourites is the source of the Krupa River. Its turquoise water beneath a high rock wall is truly something special – a place where nature reveals its beauty in the purest way.
In summer, it’s hard to resist the Kolpa River. A refreshing swim here is something you simply have to experience. The best swimming spots are in the lower part of the river, where the water is especially pleasant. If you combine your trip with a hike to Kozice, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most beautiful views of the Kolpa canyon.
Of course, we can’t skip Mirna gora, the highest peak of Bela krajina. On a clear day, the view stretches all the way to Karlovac and Zagreb. Whether you stop along the way or at the top, there’s always something good waiting for you. I visit it several times a year, and it never disappoints.
For nature lovers, I also highly recommend Divji potok. With its waterfalls and peaceful walking path, it captivates everyone. If you continue to Markova glava, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful view and a small, charming surprise at the top.
Recently, the Gače area has also been developing as a summer destination. You can explore the Kočevje forest by e-bike, enjoy outdoor activities or simply take in the views that stretch all the way to the Alps.
A Trip Completed by a Good Story
Many of our guests come to Bela krajina for nature, peace and scenic views.
But almost all of them say that visiting the brewery was the highlight of their trip.
Of course, we’re proud of that 😉
But it’s not just about the beer. It’s about the story. The feeling. The connection with people.
They feel the authenticity.
An Invitation to Experience Bela krajina
If you’re planning a trip to Bela krajina, I’d be happy to show it to you in a slightly different way.
Movement means a lot to me. And it’s through movement that Bela krajina truly reveals itself. You’re welcome to join us for a cycling or hiking trip, where I’ll gladly share my personal selection of must-see locations in the region.
After a day like that, another story awaits you at our brewery. Beer crafted with care, using carefully selected ingredients. The kind you enjoy and feel good after drinking. Of course – in moderation. 😉
Our brewery is also a great starting point for exploring Bela krajina, as it’s located right in its heart. Everything is within easy reach.

Maja’s TOP 5 Picks in Bela krajina
1. Krupa River Spring
This is one of the places I always take visitors to. The turquoise water beneath the rock wall is simply stunning. I love it because it’s peaceful, accessible and shows how beautiful nature can be in its simplicity.
2. Kolpa River (swimming spots + Kozice)
For me, Kolpa is a must in summer. A swim, some time by the river… it instantly changes your day. I especially love going up to Kozice for the incredible canyon view.
3. Mirna gora (1047 m)
My personal classic. I go there often, even during the week when I can. The view is always worth it, and a good pancake or a Vizir Gringo beer makes it even better.
4. Divji potok + Markova glava
Divji potok has a special charm – waterfalls, a peaceful trail, a feeling of being away from everything. I often recommend it to families, followed by a short hike to Markova glava.
5. Gače (Kočevje forest, views, e-bikes)
Perfect when I feel like being more active. Whether cycling or hiking, there’s always a new path to discover. The views from the top are wide and open – always a “wow moment” for me.
Cheers!
